The Monday Musts | July 11 2016

Monday, July 11, 2016

Hola amigos! I'm gonna stop there with the Spanish as it's been 8 years since I was fully fluent in Spanish and therefore I'm kinda really rusty. Anyhoo! It is Monday and that means it's time for The Monday Musts! The Monday Musts is a weekly meme hosted by Jessica at Lovin' Los Libros in which we talk about our must reads, must listens, and must sees of the week!

Must Reads

This is a special kind of "must read" because for this one, I'm asking--no, begging you to listen to the absolute riot that is the audiobook of My Lady Jane by Cynthia and, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. I implore you to listen to this audiobook as it wins second place in my book for best audiobook of 2016 so far. The story (a bit of a historical...retelling, one might say) is hilarious on its own, but the narrator's voices, inflections, and comedic timing will have you in stitches by the time you finish the audiobook!

Must Listen

So, one of my favorite thing about living in one of the most multicultural areas in the US is that I'm exposed to music from around the world! Latino culture is alive and well and bouncing around here and through it I have discovered Elvis Crespo, whose songs I love. I'm especially in love with Elvis Crespo and Derro's song "Bailar," which is just perfect dancing music! Side note: the music video is also hysterical and adorable!

Must See

NOTE: This performance contains flashing lights
If you haven't yet seen Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar's astonishing performance at the 2016 BET Awards...just watch and listen. First off, their performance is...I have no words. But the powerful message of the duo's song also leaves me speechless. It is a reminder to Black folks everywhere of how far we've come, of what our ancestors have gone through and that we cannot stop fighting, the struggle is far from over.
