What's Up On Wednesdays! | The One With Sass And Rap...

Hellooooo, my bibliophilic besties! I'm trying out a new format this week to see how it goes--if I like it, we'll keep it and if not, we'll try something new! Basically this is  gonna be like a mish mash of WWW Wednesdays (which is a weekly meme hosted by Taking On A World of Words) and Waiting On Wednesdays (a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine)! How did I come up with this? Laziness, essentially (you know what they say--necessity is the mother of invention and what is laziness save for one of the most basic driving forces of necessity?). I didn't want to post two memes on Wednesday, thus overwhelming you and slightly overburdening me, so I fused the memes together--frankenstein style (dun, dun, dun!!!)! So without any further ado, let us commence the nonsense (oooh! that rhymed! self high five for unintentional rhyming!)...

Whatcha Readin' Now?

I am currently listening to the audiobook of My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows and great gods it is absolutely hilarious! If you have the chance to get this book in audiobook format, I beg of you, DO IT!!!! The narrator makes the book--her voices and comedic timing are on point. The story is already pretty funny and ridiculous but the narrator makes it 10,000% better in every way. I'm not even finished with it and already it's secured second place for the best audiobook I've listened to in 2016. And I almost exclusively listen to audiobooks and thus am pretty picky when it comes to what I consider "above average narration" so that means a lot! And here I haven't even told you what the story is about. It's the not so true story of the very real historical figure of Lady Jane Grey. With magic. And animals. And humor. Oh, yeah. It's good.

Whatcha Been Readin'?

I just recently finished The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi. It was...okay. Unfortunately it was one of my most anticipated books of the year and I found it didn't live up to the hype. Chokshi does show promise as a writer--her style and prose is very, very good. However, I found that her plot, characters, and relationship building was lacking and that the gorgeous prose overtook and strangled the story at many points. Overall, it felt like the story hadn't been edited too well, honestly. It just felt like the whole thing needed to be pruned and tightened, ya feel me? But that being said, I think with practice, Chokshi could grow into a force to be reckoned with.

Whatcha Gonna Read Next?

I'm most likely going to pick up The Last Star by Rick Yancey next because that's what I have to return to the library first. But honestly, I'm not too excited about it. I loved The 5th Wave. It was an amazing novel in every way--the writing, the story, the philosophy--it was all just perfection. Then The Infinite Sea happened...Aaaaand the story kind of fell apart like a crumbling cookie. The Infinite Sea just seemed to get lost in its own philosophizing (is that even a word? you get what I'm saying, right?) and in doing that, it lost all of its meaning. So now we come to the third and final book...and I just don't feel invested in the story anymore. I'm not quite clear on what's going on and I don't care about the characters. BUT. Some tiny part of me does want to know what happens so...we'll see. Here's to hoping Yancey can turn this skeptic into a believer...

...Wow. I'm honestly astounded at how long I managed to drag that rap out for and how ridiculous I can make myself look online...I amaze myself sometimes. Anyhoo. The book on my radar this week is The Thousandth Floor by Katherine McGee, expected publication date August 30, 2016. From what I can gather it's a mystery/thriller-sci fi mash up about a a girl falling from a 1,000 floor building in a futuristic NYC...Here. I'll give you the Goodreads Summary. That'll do the story way more justice than me (plus I gotta catch my breath from rapping so much *wheezes*)...
