Lila
Welcome to Hardcover Haven, a haven for any and all bookworms! I'm Lila, your guide around this particular patch of internet. I'm a twenty-something college student studying anthropology. When I'm not reading, I can usually be found singing, spending time with family and friends, and/or snuggling my two cats, Snoopy and Clementine.

welcome

What's Up On Wednesdays! | My Lovely Awkwardness PLUS Space Jam!

Whaddup, homies?! Lila is in da house, what what! Okay, I'm gonna stop being weird now (okay, so that's actually kind of a lie, I never stop being weird). Erm, what I mean to say is:

Hello! Allow me to welcome you to What's Up On Wednesdays, my own Frankenstein-esque mishmash off the weekly memes WWW Wednesday (hosted by Taking On A World Of Words) and Waiting On Wednesday (hosted by Breaking The Spine)! I've got lots to say so let's not delay (haha, rhyming)!

Whatcha Readin' Now?

I haven't read/listened to an audiobook in an entire week, ducklings. WHAT HAVE I BECOME???! A shame, that's what! But I plan to get back on the wagon (which is eons harder than falling off, mind you)! And I'm currently making attempts! And by that I mean I have Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge all queued up and ready to go on my laptop! And I'm excited about it too! That counts for something, right??? Right????!

Whatca Been Readin'?

So two weeks ago, I finished Young Avengers Vol. 1: Style > Substance by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, and Mike Norton and I have to say, I wasn't overly impressed with it. I mean, the art was great but the story was pretty lacking in substance. It was okay, but I wasn't hooked or grabbed and honestly I don't feel too compelled to pick up the rest of the series. Oh well. Ya win some, ya lose some but what can ya do? Last week I finished Ruined by Amy Tintera and I have to say, I' pretty split on the book. On the one hand, the book wasn't some great technically speaking, but on the other hand, the cliffhanger ending really has me hooked and I desperately want to know what happens next. Overall, I liked it a lot emotionally, but had to give it a middling rating due to its technical issues.

Whatcha Gonna Read Next?

As per usual, I'm not completely sure what I'm going to read next, but I'm seriously considering Riders by Veronica Rossi and Walk The Edge by Katie McGarry. Since Walk The Edge is a library book, though, I'll probably go with that one.

Books On My Radar

Y'ALL READY FOR THIS?!

Okay! So today, Imma tell y'all about a book (shocker, I know) that sounds all  of incredible! Aaaaaaaaand that book would be A Shadow Bright And Burning by Jessica Cleuss, expected to be released on September 20, 2016! The book is a YA fantasy book that subverts the traditional chosen one trope! In the book, Henrietta Howel, the heroine, who happens to be able to "burst into flames," is believed to be the chosen one...only, she's not so convinced. This all takes place against the backdrop of a school for sorcerers in Victorian London. There's romance! Magic! Betrayal! It's all very dramatic, if you ask me...I'm not doing the story enough justice, though, so let me give you the good ol' Goodreads summary...
kinds
I am Henrietta Howel. The first female sorcerer. The prophesied one. Or am I?
Henrietta Howel can burst into flames. When she's brought to London to train with Her Majesty's sorcerers, she meets her fellow sorcerer trainees, young men eager to test her powers and her heart. One will challenge her. One will fight for her. One will betray her. As Henrietta discovers the secrets hiding behind the glamour of sorcerer life, she begins to doubt that she's the true prophesied one. With battle looming, how much will she risk to save the city—and the one she loves?
