Welcome to Hardcover Haven, a haven for any and all bookworms! I'm Lila, your guide around this particular patch of internet. I'm a twenty-something college student studying anthropology. October Month in Review + Mini Obsession Confession | The Scariest Thing A Reader Can Face...A Reading Slump!

Oh, October! Month of spooks and slumps! At least, that's how it was for me. The unfortunate news is that I have yet to conquer my reading slump. The good news is that at the end of the month, my toils and troubles were rewarded with CANDY! So yeah. You could say it's been an up and down month. Quite literally, in fact, as October was the month in which I flew an airplane for the first time and then proceeded to travel deep underground to tour some caverns. So my personal life has been full of fun and friends and adventures! Oh, yeah, and school too! Reading, though...welllllllll...at least I really enjoyed the majority of books I read??? *cringes* Okay. Let's just get down to it...

Books Read + Mini Reviews

A Shadow Bright And Burning by Jessica Cluess | 4/5 Stars
This book! It was positively magical! And I mean that figuratively and literally! I went into A Shadow Bright and Burning with caution because I'd heard mixed reviews, but it turns out there was no need for that caution--the book was bloody brilliant! I fell in love with the characters, the ploot, and the feminist undertones and now I'm eagerly anticipating the next book!

Replica by Lauren Oliver | 5/5 Stars
Okay so Replica was not only my favorite book of the month, but has definitely made it to list of Top Five of 2016. I cannot express how good this book was. Beyond the neat formatting, the story itself and the characters were A++! I could go on about this book for hours! Definitely read it!

The Architect of Song by A.G. Howard | 3.75/5 Stars
I was super hyped for this book as it was an NA gothic paranormal/historical read. Ultimately, however, I wasn't left fully satisfied. The Architect of Song wasn't horrible, it just was kinda slow and lacked that certain something. I'm torn on whether or not to continue the series, which is a companion series each featuring a different member of the same family. I guess we'll see.
