my orilium spring equinox tbr

Thursday, April 4, 2024

Hello again, dear friends! I hope you are all happy, safe, and healthy, and, if not, I hope brighter days head your way soon! We are gathered here today because this April, I am once again taking part in the 2024 Magical Readathon: Orilium Spring Equinox organized by G over at the booktube channel Book Roast!

For those of you unaware, the Magical Readathon: Orilium is a series of readathons and events based off of G's original fantasy world that you can roleplay in through participating in those readathons and events. That's probably not the most clear explanation, so you can find more info in G's 2024 Spring Equinox announcement video here.

My Character's Journey

As a refresher: My character's name is Nawa, and she is an elf from Darkmeadow who's also a novice in the House of the Arcane. After having obtained an orb as a conduit, being gifted a pocket dimension, and choosing a scholarly impling as a "companion," this spring Nawa has decided to pursue a new calling as a story weaver! Thus, the courses she's taking this spring will be Inscription, Art of Illusion, Psionics & Divination, and Lore.

What I Plan On Reading

Inscription
Practical: Typography
Write down three titles, fold it, pick one

For this challenge my choices were The Adventures of Amina Al Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty, A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal, and The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem, and I ended up picking The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem. I'm definitely excited to read this Egyptian inspired romantasy, as I've heard many readers rave about it!

Art of Illusion
Shadow Play
Word "game" or "play" in the title

The only book I could think of for this is The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, which, conveniently enough, I was already halfway through and had temporarily DNFed. So I guess this is my nudge to pick it up again! I know this book/series is super popular, especially on TikTok, so I'm interested in seeing if I ultimately end up enjoying it.

Psionics & Divination
Clairsentience 2
Prediction Bingo

For this challenge, I decided to go with The Curse of Saints by Kate Dramis. It's an Adult romantasy that's kinda flown under the radar, despite being a pick for a popular book box last summer when it was released. I'm kinda confused as to why it doesn't have that much hype since it looks pretty interesting? Regardless, I'm hoping it'll be a great read!

I'm using Emm Blogs's 2024 Magical Readathon: Orilium Spring Equinox bingo board which is tailored specifically for romantasy tropes and which she generously is allowing for others to use!

Lore
!!INTERRUPTED!!
Read "The Legend of Dia"

This is a sidequest for most other adventurers who choose a different calling, but it's actually built in as a requirement for those whose calling is as a story weaver. All story weaver hopefuls must read a single page short story written by G called "The Legend of Dia." This quest seems pretty simple and fun, so I'm looking forward to it!

House of the Arcane Readalong Pick
Godkiller by Hannah Kaner

The book that ended up being chosen for my/Nawa's guild (House of the Arcane) is Godkiller by Hannah Kaner, which I'm actually pretty stoked to read! I've heard so many great things about this book, so I'm definitely excited to see what I think!

So that's all I got for ya today, dear friends! I hope you enjoyed seeing my picks for this Magical Readthon semester, and maybe you've been encouraged to join in the fun too! Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a cup of chai and a good book with my name on it! Until next time, dear friends...

spill the beans, friends!

  • Are you taking part in this Orilium Spring Exquinox readathon?
  • If so, what's on your TBR?
