Ah, books, tags, and Harry Potter--what more could you ask for? (Easy: chocolate.) I was tagged by the lovely Trang and Lashaan at Bookidote, the creators of this super fun tag!
A BOOK YOU FOUND THE THEME INTERESTING, BUT YOU’D LIKE TO REWRITE IT.
I read the beginning of The Host by Stephenie Meyer a little while back and I think that that book fits this question perfectly. I really enjoyed the book, but that didn't stop me from noting that the book was really slow and kind of confusing (and that's understandable given that it's such a high concept novel). In theory, the story is a really great, but I think Meyer's writing needs to be cleaned up and tightened a bit.
THE FIRST BOOK IN A SERIES THAT GOT YOU HOOKED.
I was so hooked after reading Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. The writing was so incredibly beautiful and the story was so compelling that I just needed more, more, more immediately, goshdarnit! I was pretty addicted, you could say!A BOOK YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE RIGHT NOW.
This year it seems like publishers are knocking it out of the park with sequels and new books from old authors. I say this because not one, not two, but three of my most anticipated sequels and/or new books from old authors are publishing within a two month period! Those three books tie for the spot of my most anticipated book of the year. Those books are...DRUMROLL PLEASE!...Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor, Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas, and Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff!A KILLER BOOK. BOTH SENSES. TAKE IT AS YOU LIKE.
I'm gonna take that as "killer" in a good way and in a quite literal way and say...Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff! This was a "killer" book in the literal sense in that it involved the deaths of many people! But it's "killer" in the figurative sense in that it was ridiculous...ly good!A BOOK THAT YOU FOUND REALLY CONFUSING.
I hate to repeat answers for a tag, but I think this one also goes to the bit of The Host by Stephenie Meyer that I read. It just is such a high concept novel that was so loosely written that it was hard to follow, unfortunatelyYOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL BOOK.
Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley--it's whimsical and imaginative just like me!A DARK TWISTED BOOK.
The Young Elites trilogy by Marie Lu without a doubt! If you haven't read or heard of The Young Elites trilogy, it's the origin story of a villain named Adelina Amouteru. It's dark and twisted and kinda freaky, especially in the second book when Adelina kind of fully embraces her villainousness.A BOOK THAT SURPRISED YOU IN A GREAT WAY, REVEALS TO BE MORE THAN IT IS.
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas! I was not expecting this book to become one of my favorites! It's not that I disliked A Court of Thorns and Roses (the first book in the series), it just wasn't my favorite of Maas's books and after the hype died down, I realized it hadn't blown me away as much as Maas's other books have. But this one? Honestly, I think it's Maas's best work so far!
QUESTIONS I ADDED
WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA--A CHARACTER'S NAME THAT YOU GOT COMPLETELY WRONG
So this doesn't happen to me any longer because I listen to audiobooks (#PerksOfBeingAnAudiobooker) but I'm pretty sure that when I was a kid, before I ever listened to the audiobooks of Harry Potter, I probably mispronounced Hermione's name...
STUPEFY--A BOOK THAT LEFT YOU IN SHOCK
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas left me in shock...at how good it was! Maas seems to top herself with each and every successive publication of hers. I honestly did not think she could top her storytelling in Queen of Shadows...but then she goes and writes ACOMAF and I was like...*mind. blown.*
OBLIVIATE--A BOOK YOU WISH YOU COULD FORGET
That's a tough one because I rarely feel any guilt/shame or regret over what I read...BUT I do regret wasting my time reading one book and that's Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines. I've ranted about this book before but I just found it so tasteless and a really bad example for young girls in that it romanticized a highly toxic relationship. And it wasn't even written well (in my opinion)! So I regret having wasted a week reading it and I wish I could forget the book because every time I think about it, it makes me upset.
LUMOS--A BOOK THAT BRIGHTENED YOUR DAY
This one 100% goes to Nimona by Noelle Stevenson! Nimona is an absolutely adorable and adorkable graphic novel about Nimona, who is the overzealous apprentice of supervillain Ballister Blackheart! It's touching, heartwarming, and humorous and I just love it so goshdarn much!!! Every time I think of the book or reference it, it makes me smile :D
I so agree with what you said about the host. I enjoyed it a lot more than Twilight, but for a book so heavy themed there needed to be a better way of explaining things. Thanks for tagging me!
