Welcome to Hardcover Haven, a haven for any and all bookworms! I'm Lila, your guide around this particular patch of internet. I'm a twenty-something college student studying anthropology. When I'm not reading, I can usually be found singing, spending time with family and friends, and/or snuggling my two cats, Snoopy and Clementine.

Spilling The Secrets | July 2017

Hey, y'all! Welcome to this month's segment of Spilling The Secrets! It's been a really busy month, both in my life and on the blog--but it's also all been super fun! So let's jump right into this month's recap!

Blogging Business
So those of y'all with keen eyes may have noticed that I've been blogging mostly here on Hardback Haven lately and that's because I've decided to make this my main blog! It's an exciting, but also nerve-wracking move that I made for a lot of reasons. Anyhoo, my main hangout will be here from now on so I hope y'all like it!
POST FLASHBACK

Reading Wrap Up + Mini Reviews

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
I adored this book! It was fun and kick*ss and feminist and full of swashbuckling and adventures! It was basically everything you could ever hope for from a pirate fantasy book! I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!
Song of the Current by Sarah Tolcser
ASDFGHJKLLKJHGF!!! ONE OF MY NEW FAVES!!! I loved this book so, so, sooo much!!! It was a pirate fantasy and it had a mixed race heroine, feminism, and it touched on consent! What more could you possibly ask for?! (A hint: Nothing!)
Roar by Cora Carmack
I was hoping for much more from Roar (hehe, rhyming!). I was hoping for a sweeping, romantic elemental fantasy and instead I got a meh, forgettable fantasy ad a somewhat problematic romance. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this one just a smidgen, but, honestly, there are better books to invest time in.
Dark Breaks The Dawn by Sarah B. Larson
I DNFed this one and, honestly, I can't remember much about it. I just remember that it was taking too long to get going and it was a tad overdramatic I think? Idk, but I disliked it enough to DNF it and block it from my memory.
Avenged by Amy Tintera
This was an awesome sequel that kept me on edge for the whole dang ride! I can't say much about this one since it's a sequel but just know that this is an awesome series and I can't wait for the third book to come out (2018 can't come soon enough!)!

Music Favorites
I didn't realize how large my July playlist was until I look at it just now, haha! Guess I listened to a lot of good music! I feel like this past month, there was an equal mixture of upbeat and chill songs. Feel free to take a listen!

Movie/TV Favorites
I finally saw Wonder Woman and it was AMAZING!!! Talk about a feminist masterpiece! I certainly won't be forgetting this film or how it felt to watch it for a while! If you haven't seen it, you definitely need to correct that mistake ASAP!!!

I had a great time with my besties at a Bollywood Dance Party. It was held at the Marriott and we got all dressed up and learned some new dance moves before getting down to the beat of a ton of Indian tunes! It was so much fun!

I Attended A John Legend Concert

My good friend ended up with an extra John Legend ticket when his parents couldn't go to the show so we went together and had a blast! I love John Legend, so it was great to see him perform and I had a great tme singing and dancing along with my friend!

I've Been Dancing Zouk-Lombada/Brazilian Zouk

There's $5 dancing every Sunday on the Potomac River in DC and I've been going and learning how to dance Brazilian Zouk (also known as Zouk-Lombada)! I've had so much fun learning how to dance and I can't wait to go again!

So that's all for this month! What fun things have been going on in your life? Tell me all in the comments! Ta ta for now!
